Is it worth it to do a bootcamp? Get good with your user interviews, UX research template...
Read time: 5 minutes.
Hi there, thank you for being really active on this newsletter. We truly appreciate your support!
Last week we participated in a hackathon and it was awesome (but exhausting). As a junior UX designer, we really recommend attending these types of events to gain experience.
For those who are new here, you are very welcome to ask us questions about UX and weโll be happy to add them in the next newsletters :)

Are bootcamps a waste of time?
Most of you often ask this question: is it worth doing a UX bootcamp?
In all honesty, I didn't attend a bootcamp because I had the opportunity to do a master's degree in this field. But the answer is pretty simple: it depends on your expectations. It can be nice to discover UX and create a network.
However, many sources insist that bootcamps are not there to secure you a job and do not prepare you for the "real world." Here's what you can do instead:
Create solid case studies that actually practice what you have learned in theory.
Develop skills that companies are looking for: communication, presentation, storytelling, collaboration.
Rather than investing in an expensive bootcamp, you can take the course provided by Google and be supported by a Mentor on ADP List.
Practice, practice, practice. The best is to find an internship or work for a startup to get a more concrete vision.
Of course we are not here to tell you to run away from bootcamps, there are certainly very positive experiences but in any case, to reassure you, know that it is NOT an obligation to go through a bootcamp to succeed as a UX.
Remember, UX is a complex field, it's normal that your learning curve is long.

And if you've completed your bootcamp but are struggling to find a job, here's also an article that gives you advice on what strategy to take. Concretely, the author suggests us to:
Do an audit on yourself to understand what is not working
Prioritize what you can change
Get started and measure your impact.

A concept explained โ๏ธ
How to ace your user interview?
When I started UX, I wish I had this advice, "Learn to ask good questions. Because good questions lead to good products." In fact, if you ask the wrong questions, you'll get poor answers and you won't fully understand your users. In this good article, you will learn "the art of the user interview".
Here are some tips:
Prepare yourself for the interview
Have a clear goal
Choose your interview method (there are 2 common methods: in person or remote by video or call)
Create a discussion guide
Youโll have typically 2 sections in your discussion: intro questions (e.g: What are some of the apps and websites you use on a regular basis?) and product-specific questions (What is the biggest pain point related to [task]?).
Find another person to do the interview with you
It is best if one person asks questions and the other takes note.
Always record your session
Here are some other practical tips: give a warm welcome, explain that there are no right or wrong answers, start with easy questions, give priority to open-ended questions...
